Animal Health Services
Animal Health Services have four vets - three are directors of the company. All four vets are focused full-time on production animal health, allowing us to provide a high level of service and continuity of care.
David Butler BVSc
Dave started work at Animal Health Services in 1996, after working in Northland, the UK and the Waikato. He is a director of the company and is one of the most experienced dairy practitioners in the Rotorua area. He is an authority on mastitis management, dairy cow nutrition and fertility. He coordinates our computer-based herd management tools such as Fencepost, MINDAPro and Red Sky. His passion is working closely with dairy farmers in an advisory capacity, improving the profitability of their operation.
Andrew Twiddy MA VetMB
Andy graduated in the United Kingdom and worked for several years in mixed practice in the Midlands. He travelled to New Zealand in 2004 for his veterinary OE and failed to go home. Andy has worked for Animal Health Services since his arrival and became a director in 2008. He takes a special interest in the sheep and beef side of the practice, in addition to his dairy responsibilities. He has three young children to keep him busy outside of work.
Jim Houlton BVSc
Jim graduated from Bristol University in the UK in 2007 and worked for 6 years in Somerset as a farm animal vet before heading to New Zealand in 2013. He worked in the Waikato for two seasons dealing with predominantly dairy cows before moving to Rotorua. He became a director in 2016. Jim has always had a strong passion for working with farmers to help them reach their full production potential. Jim is a keen mountain biker and enjoys spending time in the Redwoods either on the bike or with his family.
Julia McCracken BVSc
Born and bred in Taranaki, Julia graduated from Massey in 2007. She then worked at an innovative and forward-thinking clinic in Piopio, in the King Country. Initially she intended to only spend a few years there - but found she loved the area and the people so much that she stayed for 11 years! Julia particularly enjoys working in the areas of parasite management (sheep and beef, and dairy), lameness prevention and mastitis management in dairy herds. It's very rare to find her at home in the weekends. She's either out on her mountain bike, her road bike, or her horse, or trail running, tramping or deer stalking.
Monique Ward Office/Sales Manager
Monique is our Office Manager. She comes from sunny Blenheim and has done many different jobs over the years. From working in the Aussie mines to rounding up bulls at the sale yards - you name it, she's had a crack at it. She spends most of her day running the clinic and keeping the vets in line, but much prefers getting out and about with the vets helping out on farm. She's neck-and-neck with Julia when it comes to being the horsiest person in the practice.
Ellie Hurlston Office Administrator
Ellie grew up on a dairy farm in the Ngakuru area and still lives out there now. She has a love for all animals, especially horses, and has previously relief milked and worked at Paradise Valley Springs. She ably assists Monique in the office.
